Happy 30th Birthday to the Guang Ping Yang T'ai Chi Association!
Guang Ping Yang T’ai Chi Association (GPYTCA) turned 30 on February 17, 2026. Guang Ping Yang taijiguan was originated by the great Taiji Master, Yang Lu-Chan, with his second son, Yang Ban-Hou. From Yang Ban-Hou this lineage was passed down to only three disciples. One of the three was Wang Jiao-Yu. Wang in turn passed this style down to only four disciples. One of the four was Kuo Lien Ying, who brought this style to the United States in 1965.
Kuo Lien Ying’s senior students Henry Look and Y.C. Chiang formed the Guang Ping Yang T’ai Chi Association in commemoration of Kuo Lien Ying’s unselfish sharing of his many skills. A steering committee was formed on November 25, 1995, when over 30 Guang Ping taiji enthusiasts gathered at a meeting in Rancho Cordova California. February 17, 1996, marked the official formation of the GPYTCA with the formal election and installation of officers and executive committee members. Two years later, the Association was officially established as a non-profit corporation for public benefit after its filing in the State of California was approved.
Our founders would be pleased with the Association’s growth and accomplishments over the past three decades. Here’s to the next 30 years!!
